Business & Leadership Tips from the BlogHer19 Conference – Part 1
Hi friends,
Last week I had the pleasure of attending the BlogHer19 Creators Summit in New York, in collaboration with BlogHer and She Knows Media. This was my first time attending this conference and I had a great time. I initially planned to attend BlogHer18 last year but due to complications from my In vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment and difficulties during my pregnancy, I had to cancel my trip. So, I was very excited when I got the opportunity to work with them and attend this year’s event.
The BlogHer Creators Summit isn’t only for bloggers, but also for female creatives and entrepreneurs, so it was great to be in the midst of like-minded people. I enjoyed connecting with different women, sponsors and brand reps and loved learning from the different speakers at the event like Connie Britton, Sarah Jessica Parker, Keke Palmer, Lo Bosworth, Danielle Bernstein, reps of Pinterest, Facebook and many more Influencers.
Below are some great tips and reminders I got from the BlogHer Creators Summit.
1.The more info you have in your creative process, the more successful you will be. You can never have too much knowledge.
2. When working on a project with a team, avoid side conversations. Always talk as a group no matter how challenging and never pull individuals aside to have private conversations because that can lead to misunderstandings and distrust.
3. As an entrepreneur and leader, always create an environment and work culture that allows for open communication and transparency to foster trust, freedom of expression and creativity.
4. Continue to actively support other women with actions and not just words. Ask yourself how you can be of service and value to women around you? How can you help women in your community accomplish their goals? How can you advocate for women rights and issues in your environment?
5. Learn to ask the tough question. You don’t have to march or protest on the street to be an advocate or activist, you just have to create solutions in your space.
6. No matter how old you get or how much you’ve achieved, keep living your dreams and keep using your resources to create value for others.
7. Don’t be afraid to try new things and reinvent yourself at any age because we are all multi-talented, multi-faceted and are capable of so many great things so stop putting yourself in a box.
8. No dream is too big or too small, just keep living and keep doing things, and you’ll continue to learn and grow.
9. Never let anyone tell you your dreams are not valid. You have to always have faith in yourself, but also work hard and the possibilities will be endless.
10. Be grateful for all the moments and opportunities you have and learn as much as you can at every stage.
11. Do what you’re passionate about regardless of what people think or what’s trending.
12. All your ideas deserve to come to light and even if you don’t succeed in one thing, you’ll learn a lot to help you succeed in another.
13. There’s nothing like failure, there’s just wins and lessons to learn.
14. Content is king but a database of people (contact list) is priceless.
15. Focus more on your email list instead of likes and followers. Always get a contact list no matter what you do or where you go.
16. As a content creator, learn to cluster your content and optimize it so you’re more visible to your audience.
17. Learn to update, repurpose, republish and re-promote your old content and pictures to continue to connect with more people.
18. Learn to use google trends, Pinterest and YouTube as research tools to find what people are interested in.
19. Learn to create diverse content so some are seasonal while others are evergreen and can be reused for a very long time.
20. You need to always invest in yourself and business, so register for that class, get a coach, find a mentor, surround yourself with a team of people who are smarter, more resourceful and also investing in themselves to be better.
21. Your goals, mission and vision have to be so important and valuable to people that you are shameless in promoting yourself.
22. Learning is a lifelong process so continue to learn but at some point, you need to start sharing your knowledge, talents, skills, experiences that you’ve already acquired to get to another level of growth and change.
23. We live in a digital world so learn to use it to your advantage to better manage your life, connect to people globally and to achieve your goals.
24. Social media is great but don’t get too carried away, you don’t own it so the best thing you can do is start building a database of your community and create an email list. Your email list is your money maker in everything you do.
25. Build you email list by offering valuable content, products or services e.g. downloadable freebies, do giveaways, host events etc
I hope these tips have been helpful? I suggest you read through them again and start applying them into your life before you read part 2 of the post with more tips. Have a wonderful day.
xoxo
Chigi.
